Scent Awareness Note from Gail Sinclair - Health and Safety Manager from the SSRSB

I have been asked to remind all who enter SSRSB schools of the importance of protecting the health and safety of students and staff by being considerate of the air we share.

Please avoid scented personal hygiene products as much as possible. Scented products can cause very serious problems for some people with respiratory conditions, such as headaches, breathing difficulty, and nasal congestion. Scented products includes anything with added smell - commonly fragrances, perfumes, colognes, lotions, body spray, laundry detergents. A typical fragrance has hundreds of ingredients and some of the chemicals use synthetic compounds from petroleum and other known toxins that turn into vapours in the air. As a general guide, you should not be able to smell any personal hygiene products more than an arms-length from you.

As you enter a school, please take note of all allergy alerts posted. We all play a part to the commitment that student and staff safety is a first priority.

Thank you,
Gail
